Professional Networking Sites
Let’s talk about professional networking sites today…..
Are you in need of new friends? Lol well maybe not that drastic but you want to learn from some professional people right?
The good news is that there are some really great professional networking sites out there. These sites are use to train, mastermind and connect. This sort of stuff is just so important.
If you haven’t read my blog or story before, I have a farming background in north Queensland Australia. My family have been farmers for over 150 years. I don’t like to knock farmers but I think that knowledge sometimes takes a while to filter out into the country areas. I know a lot of farmers who are good at business but I also know many who are basically hopeless.
I had a great childhood on the farm and then went away for 5 years of boarding school. Those years were a mix of ups and downs and by the time it was over I really had no goals for life. My main mentor at the time, my father encouraged me to get back into the agricultural industry and I went on to work the family business for a few years…
I guess you are wondering where this story is going and what it has to do with professional networking right?
Well the point of that story comes to the fore right now. I ended up spending about 4-5 years in my late teens and early twenties just spinning my wheels. I call them the wasted years and they set me back in life I say 8-10 years.
Now why would I say something like this?
Point # 1 -Bad, bad mentors.
I spent that whole time farming learning the wrong things and the exact opposite of what you should do. This is why people use professional networking sites like Linkedin and forums like warriorforum to get around the people they want to be. If you want to be successful you NEED to do this. If you want to be a successful sports person, you NEED a great coach. I didn’t have a really knowledgeable mentor back then. My dad is a good man but I can’t say he is a good businessman. His finances and my finances struggled back then….
Point # 2 – Poor Knowledge.
As I said above, I wasn’t learning anything good. In fact, I was learning a lot of bad habits. I have had to go on now and forget a lot of these bad habits and learn better ones. I needed to put myself in a place and surround myself with people with great knowledge.
So that is another important thing about professional networking sites. You can literally connect with some of the greatest minds around the world from the peace of your own home. How cool is that? That is one big advantage of the information age.
So now that you know more about the importance of these networking sites, I found a list that gives you an idea of good ones to try.
Some Professional Networking Sites To Use
I have used a lot of these to find great mentors. particularly LinkedIn and Meetup are my favourites.
Here is to a successful year and get in and hang out with some good professionals.
